OCR Language Packs

Download language packs for OCR directly from the Captures ribbon.

The Lang dropdown in the ribbon shows which language packs are installed (✓) and which need to be downloaded (↓). Select a language to use it — if it is not installed yet, the download starts automatically.

How to use it

  1. Open the Captures tab.
  2. In the ribbon, find the Lang dropdown in the Settings group.
  3. Languages show their status:
    • ✓ English — installed and ready
    • German ↓ — not installed, will download when selected
  4. Select a language. If it needs downloading:
    • The dropdown is disabled while downloading.
    • A toast shows: "Downloading language pack 'deu'…"
    • On success: "Language 'deu' ready — OCR is active" (3 seconds).
    • On failure: a red toast with the reason (6 seconds).
  5. Once downloaded, the language shows ✓ in the list.

Supported languages

English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified), Korean, Arabic.

Tips & gotchas

  • Language packs are 25–45 MB each and are downloaded from GitHub. An internet connection is required.
  • Packs survive app updates — you only download once.
  • The dropdown is disabled during download to prevent multiple simultaneous downloads.
  • The Tesseract OCR engine ships with Blue Synergy — only the language data files need to be downloaded.
