App Retention Rules

Control what Blue Synergy does with clipboard content from specific apps — keep it, hide it, or automatically delete it.

Some apps handle sensitive data: password managers, banking apps, medical software. App Retention Rules let you set per-app behavior so sensitive content never shows up in your history — or disappears automatically after a short time.

How to use it

  1. Open Settings → Security → App Retention Rules.
  2. Click + Add Rule.
  3. Select or type an application name (autocomplete shows apps you’ve copied from before).
  4. Choose a mode (see table below).
  5. For any Purge mode, pick a duration from the presets (30s, 1m, 5m…).
  6. If existing clips from that app are already in your history, a count appears — check Apply to existing clips to process them retroactively.
  7. Click Add Rule.

Rules take effect immediately for new clips.

Retention modes

Mode What happens
Capture Normal — content is stored and visible
Skip Content is never stored at all
Mask Title Title hidden (shows ●●●●), content visible in preview, paste works normally
Mask Content & Title Both hidden from view, paste still outputs the real content
Purge Stored normally, auto-deleted after the chosen duration
Mask Title + Purge Title hidden, then deleted after duration
Mask Content + Purge Both hidden, then deleted after duration

Note: Masking is visual only. The real content is preserved in the database and pasted normally. It is hidden from casual view in the clips table and overlay — not encrypted.

Tips & gotchas

  • Masked clips show a MASKED badge and ●●●●●●●●●● in the table and overlay.
  • With Mask Title only, the preview pane still shows the real content — useful when you want to hide what was copied but still access it yourself.
  • With Mask Content & Title, the preview shows a “masked by security rule” notice.
  • Use *masked=true in the search bar to find all masked clips.
  • Changing the sweep interval (how often expired clips are checked) requires restarting the app.

Configuration

Find these under Settings → Security → App Retention Rules.

Setting Default Description
Sweep interval 30s How often the background sweep checks for expired clips
Default mode Capture Fallback for apps without a rule
Duration presets 30s, 1m, 5m, 15m, 30m, 1h, 6h, 24h Shown in the duration picker
