Diff Inline Edit

Edit text directly inside the diff view without closing it.

In Side-by-Side diff mode, click the pencil button to turn one side into a text area. Type freely — the diff updates in real time. Merge buttons still work while you’re editing.

How to use it

  1. Open a diff (Ctrl+D with 2 clips selected, or via the preview toolbar with an edited clip).
  2. Make sure you’re in Side-by-Side view — click S if needed.
  3. Click the pencil button in the diff toolbar to enter edit mode.
  4. Type in the text area — the other side updates the diff live.
  5. Click the pencil button again, or close the diff, to save your changes.

Version diff (original vs. edited): the right side (edited) is the editable one.

Compare diff (clip vs. clip): click into either column to switch which side you’re editing.

Tips & gotchas

  • Edit mode is only available in Side-by-Side view. Switching to Unified exits edit mode and saves.
  • Swapping left and right also exits edit mode and saves.
  • Ctrl+Z in the text area uses the browser’s undo — it’s separate from the merge undo stack.
  • The * dirty indicator shows when you have unsaved edits.
